U. Marie Garvin
U. Marie Garvin is the Financial Controller at Council for a Livable World where she maintains accurate reporting for the Council in accordance with IRS regulations and organizational policies and procedures.
Prior to joining the Council, Garvin spent time as a Controller at Bacharach Investment Management, as a Property Accountant at the Mills Corporation, as a Staff Accountant at the Public Risk Management Association, and as a Financial Management Intern at Harrah's Casino in Atlantic City.
Garvin holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from Howard University.
Napoleon Hendrix
Napoleon Hendrix III is the Director of Development at the Council for a Livable World. He previously served as the manager of Donor Relations and Donor Services for the national headquarters of the American Red Cross from 2001 to 2007. During his tenure, he developed and implemented donor acknowledgment, recognition and stewardship standards and procedures, and numerous donor programs, including an online recognition program and a donor issue resolution call team which set the standard for donor support at the organization.
Hendrix has had a long career in fundraising, serving at the University of California, Irvine from 1986 to 2000 in the positions of Donor Relations Manager (1996-2000), Development Director for endowed scholarships (1993-1995), and Prospect Research Manager (1986-1992). He began his career as an Associate Writer of Research at UCLA in 1982.
Hendrix served two terms on the board of APRA. He is a former board member of ADRP, and he is a founding member of CARA. He is the recipient of the APRA Distinguished Service Award (2002) as well as the recipient of the CARA Distinguished Service Award (2002).
Ashley Hoffman
Ashley Hoffman is the Outreach Coordinator at the Council for a Livable World where she works to expand awareness of the Council's mission and advocacy work and increase its visibility through online outreach initiatives and congressional interaction.
Prior to joining the Council, Hoffman worked at the World Security Institute, where she coordinated public and media outreach and managed and edited the organization's various publications. She has conducted research abroad, studying conflict resolution in Vukovar, Croatia and human rights and Islam in Aalborg, Denmark. Hoffman also previously worked as a reporter for The Daily Iowan, covering the "women and minorities" beat, and has received several awards for her dedication to covering issues relating to social change.
Hoffman holds a B.A. in International Studies and Journalism from the University of Iowa.
John Isaacs
John Isaacs is the Executive Director of Council for a Livable World where his work focuses on national security issues in Congress, Iraq, missile defense, and nuclear weapons.
Isaacs is one of the leaders of the nation's arms control community and has long been an expert on the workings of Congress. He has represented the Council on Capitol Hill since 1978. Isaacs previously served as a Legislative Assistant on foreign affairs to Representative Stephen Solarz (D-NY), a Legislative Representative on foreign policy and defense budget for Americans for Democratic Action, and a Foreign Service Officer in Vietnam.
Isaacs has published articles in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Atlanta Journal, St. Louis Post Dispatch, Christian Science Monitor, Nuclear Times, Arms Control Today, American Journal of Public Health, and Technology Review.
Isaacs holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College and an M.A. from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
Renee Jackson
Renee A. Jackson is the Senior Accountant at Council for a Livable World where she directs the Council's entire accounting operation.
Prior to joining the Council, Jackson spent three years as Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer at the National Association of Counties where she worked closely with the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Audit Committee, and Executive Committee and was responsible for keeping track of all travel-related expenditures, operating expenditures, and reporting for all committees as well as upper management. Jackson has over 20 years of combined experience in governmental, corporate, and job cost accounting.
Jackson holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Maryland University College.
Katie Mounts
Katie Mounts is a Policy Associate and Office Manager at Council for a Livable World where she researches and tracks security issues, legislation, and political campaigns and drafts and edits legislative action e-alerts and related policy analyses.
Prior to joining the Center, Mounts interned for the Education for Justice Project at the Center of Concern in Washington, D.C. and served as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Uganda Conflict Action Network, a transnational peace movement for Northern Uganda. While in college, Mounts worked as an editorial assistant for the Review of Politics, co-chaired the Kroc Institute's annual Student Peace Conference, worked with issues relating to gender relations, and spent a semester of foreign study in Rome.
Mounts holds a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in International Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame.
Jason Pantaleo
Jason Pantaleo is the Contributions Coordinator at the Council for a Livable World where he manages contributions and coordinates donor acknowledgments for the Council's database.
Prior to joining the Center, Pantaleo worked at the American Museum of Natural History in New York as a Membership Associate and managed pension benefits as a Pension Law Specialist for the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. He has also worked as an Assistant Language Teacher on the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme in Tsukechi, Japan, where he taught English to elementary and junior high school students.
Pantaleo holds a B.A. in Biology from Washington and Jefferson College and speaks Japanese.
Travis Sharp
Travis Sharp is the Communications Director at Council for a Livable World where he directs print, TV, and radio communications strategy and performs policy work on national security spending, military policy, and Iraq.
Prior to joining the Council, Sharp interned on a congressional campaign in his home district in California and spent a summer working at the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office. He went to college on a soccer scholarship, winning two conference championships during his varsity career, and received the Mauricio Romero Prize in Politics and the Ralph Lane Peace and Justice Prize.
Sharp has published letters and articles in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, ISN Security Watch, Peace Review, Asia Times Online, Middle East Online, and Foreign Policy in Focus.
Sharp holds a B.A. in History and Politics, with minors in African Studies and Humanities, from the University of San Francisco.
Guy Stevens
Guy Stevens is the Chief Operating Officer at Council for a Livable World where his work focuses on fundraising, political and community outreach, and implementing organizational strategic objectives. He previously served as the Council's Director of Technical and Information Services in addition to performing the duties of a policy analyst and researcher.
Prior to joining the Council, Stevens worked as a researcher in the Science & Human Rights Program at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, as a grassroots activist at California Peace Action, and as an activist at Voter Revolt. At present, Stevens is also a member of Butter, a rock band playing in the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Stevens holds a B.A. in Political Science from Bates College and an M.A. in International Relations and U.S. Foreign Policy from American University.
Gilbert Wilson
Gilbert Wilson is the Director of Technical and Information Services at Council for a Livable World where he manages technological resources and initializes and implements advanced online operations.
Prior to joining the Council, Wilson served his local community as an EMT first responder. In college, he worked as a research assistant in the department of political science, guest lectured on the just war tradition and jihad, and wrote his senior thesis on just war theology, U.S. nuclear weapons doctrine, and the Catholic Church. Wilson won honors for "best delegate" and "most authentic delegate" at the national model NATO conference in Washington, D.C.
Wilson holds a B.A. in Political Science and Religious Studies from Allegheny College.
