Tell the Turkeys - Have a Good Thanksgiving

Dear Friends,

Even though the turkeys continue to rule the White House, we think there is still much to give thanks for on this holiday.

More than once, we have knocked the stuffing out of the neo-conservatives who want to engage the United States in new wars to spread democracy at the point of the gun.

Council for a Livable World’s supporters have sent thousands of letters and petitions to Congress urging them to support our initiatives to turn back President Bush’s dangerous, unilateral foreign policies. This year:

• Thanks to people like you, Congress may once again stop President Bush from developing a new generation of nuclear weapons;

Because of your letters to Congress, Bush might not get his $200 billion to prolong a war in Iraq without the condition that he begin to bring troops home within 30 days;

Through petitions and letters, Congress heard our collective voice against a war in Iran and has since strengthened their opposition to the President attacking that country without congressional consent; and

Council-endorsed progressive candidates have received campaign contributions from all over the country. Already you helped elect Nikki Tsongas to represent Massachusetts's 5th Congressional District, adding one more voice against the war in Iraq in Congress!

Thanksgiving will generate a huge amount of leftovers. We already have enough problems left over from the ill conceived war in Iraq, we don't need to order another turkey in Iran.

Finally, let us give thanks that President Bush only has 13 months left in office.
