Even more troops could be on their way to Iraq.
That was the message of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. Peter Pace, who indicated yesterday that he and the other Chiefs of Staff will be presenting President Bush with several options in a forthcoming report, including an even bigger troop buildup in Iraq. [1]
The first rule of holes: if you’re in one, stop digging.
Thanks to your support, Council for a Livable World published a powerful ad today that makes this point crystal clear in Politico, a newspaper widely read on Capitol Hill by Members of Congress and their staffs.
With your continued help, we can place this ad in even more newspapers across the country.
Please contribute $35, $50, or more to pressure Congress to withdraw our troops from Iraq.
The U.S. invasion of Iraq has been an unmitigated disaster. Over 3,600 U.S. soldiers have been killed and more than 26,000 more have been wounded. Estimates of Iraqi civilians killed range from 65,000 to 650,000. All of this for a war that has cost taxpayers nearly a half trillion dollars.
Some Republicans are finally beginning to publicly oppose President Bush’s failed Iraq policy. Now more pressure is needed to make sure that they match rhetoric with action by voting for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq and pushing other Republicans to do the same.
Sincerely,

P.S. Republican leaders are using parliamentary maneuvers to avoid a vote on the merits in the Senate to begin the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. The Senate is expected to pull an all-nighter tonight to force a vote on the Levin (D-MI) - Reed (D-RI) amendment to set a timetable to withdraw troops. You can call the U.S. Senate switchboard at 202-224-3121. Ask for your Senators and tell them to stop delaying a vote on Iraq.
