Senate Makes Progress On Iraq
May 16, 2007
Dear Friend,

| Senators Harry Reid (D-NV) and Russ Feingold (D-WI) |
The Senate continued to make progress towards withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq today, with 29 Democrats voting in favor of the Feingold (D-WI)-Reid (D-NV) amendment to redeploy American soldiers within 120 days with a mandatory date of completing withdrawal by March 31, 2008.
This total is over double the number of votes a similar measure received in June 2006, when a Kerry (D-MA)-Feingold (D-WI)-Boxer (D-CA) amendment mandating that troop withdrawal from Iraq be completed by July 1, 2007 garnered only 13 votes in favor.
As noted by Sen. Feingold earlier this morning, "Today the Senate took another step toward acknowledging the will of the American people, who want to end this misguided mission in Iraq. A majority of Senate Democrats are on the record clearly stating that the President's Iraq policy is a failure and that we need to take real action to change course. … We must continue to ratchet up the pressure on the President and supporters of this irresponsible war to safely redeploy our troops from Iraq so we can refocus on those who attacked us on 9/11."

This was a tough vote and this progress couldn’t have happened without your hard work. Thank you to all of our supporters who called their Senators. More pressure will be needed in the upcoming days and weeks to help end this disastrous war.
Sincerely,
