Republicans Threaten Nuclear War with Iran
Jun 18, 2007
Dear Friend,
![]() |
| Rudy Giuliani recently said that "you shouldn’t take any option off the table" when dealing with Iran. |
“I would authorize the use of tactical nuclear weapons [against Iran]”
That’s Republican Representative Duncan Hunter of California talking about how to deal with Iran’s attempts to develop nuclear weapons.
And he is not alone. At the third GOP presidential debate, four candidates explicitly stated that they would consider the use of nuclear weapons against Iran.
We need to act now to prevent this dangerous rhetoric from becoming a reality. Please co-sign our letter urging the Presidential candidates to use diplomacy with Iran, not preventive war or saber rattling.
The neo-conservatives who brought us the disastrous Iraq war now want to expand the war into Iran.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani said recently: “I think [dealing with Iran] could be done with conventional weapons, but you can’t rule out anything and you shouldn’t take any option off the table.”
Pro-war Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT) argued for the use of force against Iran on CBS’ Face the Nation.
Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton told the British newspaper The Telegraph: “If all else fails, if the choice is between a nuclear-capable Iran and the use of force, then I think we need to look at the use of force.”
Please sign our letter to the Presidential candidates urging bargaining, not bombing.
The sentiments expressed at the debates are dangerous and wrong. An expanded war with Iran would undermine U.S. security and the world.
War could spread to the entire Middle East. The U.S. image around the world would be further tarnished. Energy prices would skyrocket. Iran could retaliate by attacking U.S. forces in the region and our allies.
We need your signature to join the chorus of opposition promoting diplomacy, not bombs. Only a sustained public outcry will keep George W. Bush from attacking Iran and plunging the United States into another bloody and unnecessary war in the Middle East.
Please co-sign our letter to the candidates urging bargaining, not bombing.
Sincerely,
