Out of Iraq Votes This Week!

Jul 11, 2007

Dear Friend,

Two key amendments to the Defense Authorization bill that would require the withdrawal of most U.S. troops from Iraq by next spring are expected to be introduced in the Senate THIS WEEK.

Please call your Senators and urge them to support the Feingold-Reid and Levin-Reed amendments! These amendments take decisive steps to end the war by requiring the U.S. to begin troop withdrawal within the next 120 days and have most troops out of Iraq by next spring. A recent USA Today/Gallup poll shows that opposition to the Iraq war has reached a record high: Over 70% of Americans now favor removing U.S. troops from Iraq by April 2008.

The tide is also turning in Congress, as Republicans are finally coming out against President Bush’s failed Iraq policy. Last week, Sens. Pete Domenici (R-NM), Richard Lugar (R-IN), and George Voinovich (R-OH) publicly criticized Bush’s war plans, but we need to make sure that they live up to their rhetoric by voting for the withdrawal U.S. troops from Iraq.

All of this comes as war costs are mounting. A report from the non-partisan Congressional Research Service found that the war in Iraq now costs $10 billion a month and the total cost for the Iraq war is nearing a half-trillion dollars.

Your support is urgently needed! The Feingold (D-WI)-Reid (D-NV) and Levin (D-MI)-Reed (D-RI) amendments both take decisive steps to end the war and could be voted upon as early as this week.

Please call your Senators and urge them to support the Feingold-Reid and Levin-Reed amendments! Click here to look up their phone numbers.

Leaders of the anti-war movement in the Senate have asked us to thank you for all the hard work that has brought us to this point. We need to keep up the pressure and end this horrible war.

Sincerely,

John Isaacs and Guy Stevens

P.S. Please forward this on to five friends and ask them to contact their Senators too!
