Dear Friend,

Candidates who win the November elections will determine America's national security policies in 2009 . One of these elected officials will sit in the Oval Office. Many more will walk the halls of Congress.

Council for a Livable World has endorsed candidates for Senate and House of Representatives who will pursue sensible national security policies, prohibit the funding of new nuclear weapons programs, and bring an end to the war in Iraq.

Read about our candidates for Senate and our candidates for House.

Current Rep. Tom Udall is running for the Senate in New Mexico to replace long-time champion of new nuclear weapons programs, Sen. Pete Domenici. Both of Udall's prospective Republican opponents support new nuclear weapons programs.

Tom Udall's cousin, Rep. Mark Udall, is vying for the seat of Sen. Wayne Allard in Colorado. Allard supports new nuclear weapons programs and sits on the committee that oversees their funding.

Jeff Merkley of Oregon - a rare Senate candidate who is already an expert on nuclear weapons - is challenging Republican Sen. Gordon Smith for his seat. Merkley opposes building a new generation of nuclear weapons and has endorsed the vision of moving toward a world free of nuclear weapons. Merkley needs your help before his May 20 primary.

The 2008 congressional elections will have a huge impact on what our next Congress is able to do. You can find out more on our website about our forecasts for these elections.
