An election to be held on March 8th has become a clear referendum on whether the U.S. should have a permanent military presence in Iraq.

It is a special election in Illinois' 14th Congressional District to fill the seat of retired Rep. Dennis Hastert (R).

The Democrat in the race is Bill Foster, a physicist and businessman. Foster believes that it is time to bring our troops home from Iraq.

He is running the first political ad in the country denouncing a permanent presence in Iraq.

Foster's Republican opponent is Jim Oberweis, a local businessman who supports the Bush-McCain position that the U.S. should stay in Iraq for another ten years. Oberweis has gotten down and dirty:

"Bill Foster wants to cut off funding for the troops and raise the white flag."

Click here to show Oberweis that bringing our troops home is not surrender - it is the only realistic solution left for a war with no end in sight.

Bill Foster will not only be one more voice in Congress against the war. As a physicist, Foster understands the dangers of nuclear weapons and is dedicated to Council for a Livable World's vision of a nuclear weapons-free world. He is also committed to finding clean, renewable sources of energy to end America's dependence on oil.

This election is just weeks away, and polls show it as too close to call. Bill Foster can win, but he needs your support in the final days of the campaign. Republicans will do anything to win, and John McCain is scheduled to campaign for Oberweis in a show of solidarity.

Sincerely,
