Honoring Women on International Women's Day

Mar 7, 2008

Dear Friend,

In honor of this International Women's Day, please consider making a contribution to one of our endorsed women candidates, future leaders for nuclear change in the 2008 Congress.
In honor of this International Women's Day, please consider making a contribution to one of our endorsed women candidates, future leaders for nuclear change in the 2008 Congress.

Women have played a crucial role in the nuclear arms control movement since its beginning. As the first female member of the House Armed Services Committee and the chairwoman of Council for a Livable World's PeacePAC, I have borne witness to some of the particular challenges they faced. I have also had the great opportunity to work alongside many of them.

In honor of this International Women's Day, I am pleased to join the Council for a Livable World in honoring the contributions of women to this field.

With your help, the women candidates endorsed by Council for a Livable World can continue to lead progressive changes in Congress.

Many women have dedicated their lives to building a safer world through nuclear disarmament, including Helen Caldicott, founder of what is now Women's Action for New Directions, and the late Randall Forsberg, principal initiator of the Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign.

If elected, women such as Mary Jo Kilroy of Ohio, Darcy Burner of Washington, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, and Donna Edwards of Maryland will continue this tradition in Congress, working to reduce nuclear weapons, adopt sensible national security policies, and bring an end the war in Iraq.

In recognition of past, current, and future women leaders for nuclear change, please consider making a contribution to these campaigns today.

Sincerely,

Patricia Schroeder
PeacePAC Chairwoman
Council for a Livable World
