Grim Anniversary: 5 Years in Iraq
Mar 19, 2008
Dear Friend,
Five years ago today, the Bush administration launched America into the war in Iraq. It has become one of the biggest foreign policy blunders in American history.
Less than two months later, Bush declared “Mission Accomplished.”
But the war, and American and Iraqi casualties, go on and on. And the Administration remains just as out of touch. Earlier this week, Vice President Cheney, meeting with Iraq leaders, praised the war as a "successful endeavor."
You have already raised your voices against this unjust and costly war. Over 15,000 of you signed our “No Permanent Presence” petition, and many of you supported the efforts of Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) to bar the Bush administration from committing the United States to a long-term presence in Iraq.
Encouraged by the strong support they have received, Rep. DeLauro and Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-MA) have introduced an even tougher piece of legislation (HR 5626) that bars Bush from committing to a long-term security agreement with the Iraqi government.
Click here to urge your representative to cosponsor HR 5626.
We have paid for the Iraq war with our prestige, our treasure, our lives, and the lives of many innocent Iraqis. Almost 4,000 dead U.S. soldiers, as well as 30,000 wounded, have paid for the mistakes of this administration.
Sincerely,
