Dear Friend,

With a September 30 fundraising deadline approaching for all congressional candidates, we urge your prompt action to help Rep. Tom Allen, running for Senate in Maine.

By doing so, you have the opportunity to send a clear anti-war message in one of the most significant races of the 2008 Senate elections.

But Allen can only get elected if arms control advocates like you support him. Click here to contribute $25, $50, $250 or more.

Allen is a bold and courageous progressive who opposed the Iraq war from the start. He is challenging incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins, who voted for the war in 2002.

Collins is trying to have it both ways by attracting independents and Democrats without alienating Republicans. She has criticized President Bush's war policies in speeches, but she has refused to vote to bring our troops home.

On July 18, Senator Collins voted to have the Senate consider a Democratic amendment to set a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq. But when the amendment came up for a vote in September, she changed her vote to "no."

Rep. Allen does not equivocate; he votes consistently to bring our soldiers home. Click here to contribute $100, $250, or $500. Over her 11 years in the U.S. Senate, Collins has voted both for and against the Bush Administration plans to build a new generation of nuclear weapons and for and against high levels of funding for national missile defense.

Allen has voted right on both issues. It has never been more important to elect progressive candidates like Tom Allen of Maine to the US Senate. If you've never contributed to a candidate before please consider starting now. If you have helped him once, please consider a second contribution. Click here to contribute $250, $500, or $1000 to add a progressive voice to the US Senate.

Sincerely,

John Isaacs and Guy Stevens
