Election 2008: Making History
What a historic election night! The election of Barack Obama to the presidency was accompanied by the election of a new, progressive Congress.
With the support of our generous members, we helped send at least 5 Council-endorsed candidates to the Senate, and at least 20 to the House of Representatives. The gains will likely be even larer than these, as a number of the races are still too close to call.

Jim Martin (D-GA)
Due to Georgia's unique election rules, which require a victor to have "50+1"% of the votes, Jim Martin will likely be in a runoff election against Sen. Saxby Chambliss on December 2.
Our 2008 Elections Contest Winner!
Thanks to all of you who entered our 2008 Elections Contest! Out of over 1,000 entries, we have our winners! Congratulations to Tyler Wigg-Stevenson, our first place winner who scored 24 out of 25 possible points for the contest. (Note: we took out the Minnesota Senate race and Ohio’s 15th district race from consideration, as both have still not been called.)
Franken's Race Still Undecided, But Looking Better Daily
We've been following the Minnesota Senate race between Council-endorsed candidate Al Franken and Republican incumbent Norm Coleman. Still undecided, the race has now reached a recount and entered the court system. At latest tally, Franken is now behind by only 174 votes.

Patrick Murphy (D-PA)
An overwhelming 64% of voters re-elected Patrick Murphy to the House of Representatives, making him the only two-term Iraq war veteran to serve in Congress.
