One of the top open seat races in the country is Ohio's 15th Congressional District where Franklin County Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy is running again. We think she will win. With PeacePAC's help, Kilroy came within 1,062 votes of defeating one of the Republican House leaders, Deborah Pryce, a seven-term incumbent who is not running again.

Kilroy's impressive run in the last election, her well-publicized local political work and her history in community organizing give her a clear advantage in this competitive open seat race.

Kilroy has been a vocal critic of the Bush administration's policies in Iraq and opposes the establishment of permanent military bases in Iraq. She wants our soldiers to come safely home and suggests a diplomatic effort to stabilize Iraq. She has also criticized attempts to paint critics of the war as soft on terrorism.

Bringing an end to the war in Iraq, along with guaranteeing that troops have the protective gear and the training they need, is a top priority for Kilroy. "I opposed the war from the start" she says, "and it is critical that we elect a Congress and a President who will bring the troops home. The 2008 elections give us the chance to do both."

Kilroy believes that the nation's most pressing foreign policy concerns are the proliferation of nuclear weapons and our dependence on foreign oil. "We must work with the U.N. to monitor and enforce the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty," she says

The election in the 15th district is likely to be close again in 2008, as it is split between predominantly Democratic Columbus and the Republican dominated suburbs. Bush won the district by 52% in 2000 but declined to 50% in 2004. . In 2006, Republicans tried to paint Kilroy as an "off-her-rocker liberal" for her support of sensible national policies and there is no doubt they will pull out all the stops to keep this seat in 2008.
