Dear Candidate for President:
The suggestion that the United States should consider using nuclear bombs against Iran is the height of insanity.
The United States should work with our allies and the International Atomic Energy Agency to block Iran from building nuclear weapons.
These efforts should stress diplomacy, not bombs or bombast.
Using nuclear weapons to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons would be an act of dangerous hypocrisy.
Moreover, expanding the Iraq war into Iran would undermine U.S. security and that of the world. War could spread to the entire Middle East. The U.S. image around the world would be further undermined. The price of gasoline would skyrocket. Iran could retaliate by attacking U.S. forces in the region and our allies.
We urge you to disavow the use of nuclear weapons and to emphasize diplomacy.
Most Sincerely,
The Membership of Council for a Livable World
