Dear Senator:
I urge you to endorse the Biden-Hagel-Levin-Snowe resolution, S.Co Res.2, opposing the troop increase in Iraq.
I support this measure as a first step in a process to bring the disastrous war in Iraq to an end this year by redeploying American troops out of that country.
After years of flawed strategy and bad tactics that alienated the vast majority of Iraq’s population, troop escalation is too little, too late. The actions of President Bush will only lead to more American and Iraqi casualties without solving the underlying political problems in Iraq.
By proposing to increase the number of troops in Iraq, President Bush has ignored his professional military advice, the bipartisan Iraq Study Group and the will of the American people.
I will also enthusiastically support additional measures to place conditions on any future funding and to force American troop withdrawal from Iraq.
I endorse the Biden-Hagel-Levin-Snowe measure as an excellent first step in that direction.
